Broadcast Workers no need for a non-compete

The following bill passed 14-12 House Labor and Industry Committee on June 9th, 2026.

The Bill: HB2558 Rep Waxman(D)
Title: Prohibit Non-Compete Agreements for Broadcast Workers

What Does it Mean: Non-Compete agreements will be eliminated in the Broadcast Industry.

The Go Big Small Biz Network’s PositionOppose, here is why:

  • It squeezes out small independent broadcast businesses.
  • It is the Labor & Industry committee passing another bill that mandates how businesses should compete without knowledge of how the industry functions.

Quote:

Rep Barger (R):

“Let’s wait and talk with Broadcasters before the vote.

More difficult for small broadcasters to compete.

Exclusivity is the bread and butter in the industry.”
