The Bill: HB721

Title: Strengthening the Construction Workplace Misclassification Act

What Does it Mean: further providing for definitions, for improper classification of employees and for criminal penalties; providing for private right of action; further providing for administrative penalties, for retaliation for action prohibited, for availability of information, for use of penalty funds and for funding; and imposing penalties.

In other words, removing the independent contractor.

The Go Big Small Biz Network’s Position: We oppose: More government interference into our small businesses and preventing businesses to hire independent contractors.

Title: Workers’ Compensation Act

What Does it Mean: Workers’ Compensation benefits would cover scars on the body, increase benefit maximums from 275 to 400 weeks.
