The Following Legal Brief on Minimum Wage

The following Legal Brief  and email was sent to all our PA Senators, gratefully with the help of Chase Englund of the Pennsylvania Small Enterprise Foundation.

The recent proposals, HB2189 Minimum Wage Increase  would significantly raise the minimum wage. The brief, which is filled with data-driven economic analysis, demonstrates that such increases would:

  • The elimination of approximately 60,000 – 120,000 jobs, concentrated particularly among young people and lower skilled workers.
  • Consumer price increases ranging from about 7% to over 40% in some labor-intensive sectors (for example, agriculture, hospitality, food services, and retail sales).
  • The elimination of nearly 7,000 existing small businesses, and the elimination of approximately 600 new small business formations annually in the agriculture, hospitality, food services, and retail sales sectors.

For the complete analysis, please review the Legal Brief  we believe this information will be valuable as you weigh the trade-offs for workers, small businesses, and our local economy.

I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this further or provide any additional materials. Thank you for your time and service to our great state of Pennsylvania.

Sincerely,

Tracey and Jeff Wakeen
