The House Finance Committee had the following informational hearing on April 29, 2026.
The Bill: HB1678 Rep Fiedler(D)
Title: Digital Advertising Tax
What Does it Mean: Taxing Google, Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft on their advertising and allocating the tax money the state gets into roads, bridges, mass transit and schools. Tax the gross receipts from the ad’s.

- Maryland is being sued by Google and others over the tax in 2021.
- Our state should expect similar lawsuits if our bill in passed. Litigation could take multiple years.
- Would the tax dollars go to the roads, bridges and other public projects? Dollars would need to be carefully audited.
