Here we go again…

Dear reader,

Can your business afford the cost of mandatory paid leave? Several bills are being proposed that would require your business to comply if passed.

The Bill: HB 1835

Title: Climate Emergency Paid Leave Act

What Does it Mean: which will REQUIRE all employers in Pennsylvania to provide a guaranteed minimum amount of paid leave for employees directly affected by climate-related disasters.  Employers will be reimbursed for part of the cost supported by state appropriations and federal disaster funds.

The Go Big Small Biz Network’s Position: We Oppose: This bill imposes a new mandate on all Pennsylvania employers—regardless of size—to provide up to 10 days of paid leave for employees affected by climate-related disasters. Yes, the legislation includes partial reimbursements (up to 50%) from a state-funded Climate Emergency Paid Leave Fund(currently does not exist) supported by appropriations and federal disaster aid, but again the government is overstepping into our businesses.

The Bill: HB200 – (previously HB181)

Title: The Family Care Act: Putting Pennsylvania Families and Small Businesses First

What Does it Mean: (1) A Family and Medical Leave Program

(2) The Family and Medical Leave Fund (3) The Family and Medical Leave Advisory Board; conferring powers and imposing duties on the Department of Labor & Industry (to create a fund from employee payroll contributions); and imposing penalties.

The Go Big Small Biz Network’s Position: We Oppose: One size does not fit all. Micro businesses shouldn’t be burdened with the same mandates as large corporations. This bill’s payroll contributions also place an unfair financial strain on employees, forcing them to fund a program that may not suit their needs.

The Go Big Small Biz Network exists to prevent government overreach into small businesses. We are funded by our monthly subscribers of $19/monthly. Please Join the movement.
