New Tax Mandate Alert- Real Time Sales Tax Remittance

The Bill: HB2300 (Rep Cepeda-Freytiz-D)

The Title: Real Time Sales Tax Remittance

What Does it Mean: It allows the Department of Revenue to require certain taxpayers (primarily businesses collecting sales tax) to use a software for real-time reporting and remittance of sales taxes, specifically delinquent sales tax businesses of over $5000, has 3 years of non-filed returns. The software, which the Department pays for the first year, but employers would pay the following years, would automatically calculate, collect, and send the tax due to the state with eachtransaction, rather than the business handling quarterly or periodic filings and payments manually. Software gets installed in the POS system of the business.
Current estimates of delinquent businesses are 3000.
There will be a list of vendors for the business to choose from.

Votes: No Votes in Finance Committee yet.

The Go Big Small Biz Network’s Position: OPPOSE, Why? We are a fierce advocate for small businesses, explicitly focused on reducing government overreach, cutting red tape and burdens, and fighting mandates that add costs and complexity. Unfortunately, the state has a track record of making something mandatory for a small group that turns to mandatory for all.

The Go Big Small Biz Network exists to prevent government overreach into small businesses. We are funded by our monthly subscribers of $19/monthly. Please Join the movement.
